Binance Partners with The Weeknd, Kanye Trademarks YEEZUS NFTs, Gemini Cuts 10% Of Employees

Binance Partners with The Weeknd
Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange, has announced its partnership with The Weeknd, a famous Canadian pop star. The cryptocurrency exchange will become the official sponsor for The Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn'' global world tour starting on the 8th of July.
"Binance is all about the community, about people, about inclusion. I was impressed by their focus on users and innovative edge," said The Weeknd.
Binance will release exclusive NFTs and co-branded tour merchandise in collaboration with HXOUSE, a creative incubator for entrepreneurs. The cryptocurrency exchange will also donate $2 million to the XO Humanitarian Fund, a United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) founded by The Weekend.
"We are excited to be an exclusive crypto partner of The Weeknd's tour, giving fans and people the ability to interact with crypto in a new avenue," said Binance Co-Founder Yi He.
Kanye Trademarks Yeezus NFTs
According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Kanye West has filed 17 new trademark applications for his YEEZUS brand, one of which covers NFTs. The applications suggest that Kanye seems to have changed his mind about non-fungible tokens.
Earlier this year, the hip-hop star was vehemently against NFTs. He wrote on his Instagram page of 10 million followers that people should “Stop asking me to do NFTs…” He said that his focus was on building real products in the real world. However, he ended the post with, “Ask me later.”
Gemini Cuts 10% of Employees
Gemini, a U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, has laid off 10% of its staff due to a significant drop in trading activity. The company is founded by the Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron, famous for filing a lawsuit against Mark Zuckerberg over the Facebook idea.
This is the first time that Gemini is seriously affected by the downturn in the markets. The company sent out a memo to all members of its staff, citing that they were experiencing a ‘crypto winter.'
In the future, the company plans to restructure and only focus on products that are critical to its mission. “Today is a tough day, but one that will make Gemini better over the long run,” said Gemini.
